How to use the BMI Calculator

  1. Enter your weight in kilograms.
  2. Enter your height in centimeters.
  3. Your BMI and weight category update instantly.

How it works

BMI is weight divided by height squared (kg / m²). For example, someone weighing 70 kg at 1.70 m has a BMI of 70 / (1.70 × 1.70) = 24.2, which falls in the normal weight range. It's the same formula used by the CDC and WHO, though it doesn't account for muscle mass, bone density, or where fat is distributed on the body.

Frequently asked questions

What is a normal BMI range?

18.5–24.9 is generally considered a normal weight range for adults. Below 18.5 is underweight, 25–29.9 is overweight, and 30+ is classified as obesity.

Is BMI accurate for everyone?

BMI doesn't distinguish muscle from fat, so it can be less accurate for athletes or very muscular people. It's a general screening tool, not a diagnosis.
